Soni Olufemi Olubunmi Oyekan

Through the African Scholarship Program of American Universities, Oyekan studied for his bachelor’s at Yale University and then completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. Oyekan is the president of Prafis Energy Solutions, an oil refining and energy consulting services company in Texas. He is also a member of the Foundation Board of Trustees of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). His inventions for petroleum refining and catalysis have enhanced profitability in the processing of crude oil for commercial uses. Oyekan holds 15 patents and is a recipient of the 2002 Distinguished Award of the Fuels and Petrochemicals Division, the 2008 AIChE William W. Grimes award for excellent contributions in chemical engineering and the 2009 Percy Lavon Julian award, among others.
