Oliver Headley

Headley was born in St. Peter, Barbados. He studied Chemistry at University of the West Indies, Jamaica and obtained his doctorate in Chemistry from University College London. After that, he joined the faculty at University of West Indies in Trinidad. He researched applications of solar energy and his innovations of photovoltaic cells were used for power systems for the Barbados Power and Light Company and other parts of the Caribbean and Central America. His solar dryers were used in numerous industries including the timber and sugar cane industries. Headley was well recognized locally and globally for his work and some of his awards and honours include the World Renewable Energy Network Pioneer Award and the Barbados Companion of Honour.
