Mayamiko Nkoloma
Mayamiko Nkoloma is a Lecturer in Telecommunications at the University of Malawi, the Polytechnic. He is a holder of an MSc in wireless communication from University of Sheffield in UK and also holds Master of Technology degree in advanced Information Technology with specialisation in Telecommunications and Networking from International Institute of Information and Technology (I²IT) in Pune, India. He obtained a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the Malawi Polytechnic.
Using his extensive knowledge and experience in telecommunications and computer programming, his objective is to provide solutions through which beneficial, affordable and reliable up-to-date Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services can be derived, implemented and sustained to meet communication demands of people in developing countries. Apart from this, he likes building technological solutions with an aim of solving challenges and make life better. Mayamiko Nkoloma is a proprietor and CEO of iMoSyS, a growing Malawian tech company which is championing developing and deployments of Internet of Things (IoT) applications to enable connectivity for remote monitoring of Industrial processes, infrastructure and environmental aspects. The firm is pioneering in the development of smart water management system which is being adopted by water utility companies in Malawi. iMoSyS was recognised in 2017 and 2018 by at International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as an SME applying ICT solutions with greatest social impact. He has been a team leader of a project conducted in the Ministry of Health - Malawi on e-Health for community intervention which was aimed at reducing Tuberculosis (TB) cases by enhancing the current system through the use of technology to enable tracking of the flow of TB samples from the community level up to point of treatment initiation. This project is funded by World Bank and the solution is being deployed in health facilities across the country. Remarkably, the solution is built on top of mobile communication and web based platforms through the use of open source tools. The innovative CEO and lecturer has developed solutions that are not only adopted locally in the country Malawi, but have find themselves being embraced by big corporations across the world, for example in Kuwait and United Kingdom (UK). Nkoloma has received numerous local and international awards. Notably he was awarded by ICT Association of Malawi (ICTAM) for being innovative by applying ICTs in the field of technology. Apart from this, recently he received the prestigious yearly, national innovation award in the field of Science and Technology from Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC). In both 2017 and 2018, he received a global award at ITU Telecom world for promoting innovative ICT solutions with greatest social impact. |
