Charlette N'Guessan
N’Guessan is a 26-year old Ivorian and the winner of the 2020 Royal Academy of Engineering Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation worth £25,000. She is the first female to win this prize since its inception in 2014. In the selection process, 15 shortlisted African entrepreneurs received eight months of training and mentoring and developed their business plans and marketing strategies. N’Guessan won the prize for the work by the tech startup, BACE GROUP, which she co-founded. BACE API is a remote digital verification platform that uses Artificial Intelligence to verify identities in real time by matching live photos to photos on documents. The system can also be integrated into existing applications. The platform aims to curb identity fraud and two financial institutions already use the software to verify customers’ identities.
